Where I Excuse My Laziness
Explaining My Absence
For anyone wondering, the post I made on 2026.08.05 is the first I made in four months. That’s a long time! I could sit here and write a listicle of reasons for the long break, but none of it would explain the real reason - I got lazy.
Making content is hard. I know many young kids these days (obligatory old man shouting at the sky) want to be YouTubers. But the truth is that job is tough. You have to make content constantly. And it cannot be crap. People can see that. Each content put out consumes time and energy, all to ensure something fun and engaging is released for the core audience.
Writing a blog is the same. Keeping it up to date is hard. Writing is hard. Time management is hard, especially now as I gain more and more responsibilities in my post PhD schooling (something has to pay the bills!).
So please spare me a few moments to try to explain.
My Valid Excuse
I think I do have a valid excuse besides being “lazy”. Don’t get me wrong, I can be incredibly lazy. But the past four months I have had a valid excuse - completing my written thesis and preparing for my oral defense.
I’m happy to say that I passed and, as of this writing, picked up that piece of paper denoting my doctorate. Hazzah!
Getting Back to in Line
As I transition into the next stage of my professional life, I am hoping that things slow down. The chances of that are slim, I know. What is going to happen is that I have to set aside time to continue the mission of my blog: practice new code and to share my thoughts and ideas.
To do that, I will need to carve out time to write. Maybe 15 minutes, maybe 30 minutes, to jot down my thoughts or summarize code I have been working on. 15 minutes a day sounds doable?
My LLM Usage
But what about LLMs? Can’t they help alleviate some of the pressures on me?
Let me be clear - I do not, and will not, use LLMs to write my posts.
The standout feature here will be my many typoos (Ha!). I don’t get a lot of visitors, but I feel anyone who makes the effort are here to experience my regurgitated thoughts and embarrassing typos in full 4K glory. Writing is how I think. Most importantly, I enjoy writing. The day an LLM writes a post for this blog it would either be A) distinctly labeled, or B) with a keyboard pried from my cold dead hands.
That is not to say I do not use LLMs. An explanation of how I use LLMs (I being key because everyone is different) in my workflow would be helpful. Perhaps the next post.
Conclusion
That is where things are now. I got my PhD. I have more responsibilities. But I’m learning how to carve out me time, with a goal for one post a month minimum.
Let’s see how far I get before I fall off the wagon.
